A rolling mill for the production of wire rods and rods in coils, owned by the Dutch company FNsteel, has been put up for sale by Hilco Industrial, according to the sales company Kallanish.
The mill was put into operation in 1965 and has since been upgraded several times, including with the participation of Danieli, SMS and Primetals companies. It was fully operational until it was mothballed in July of this year.
With a documented capacity of up to 500,000 tons per year and a recent technology upgrade completed in 2024, the company offers a two-line configuration covering a diameter range from 5.5 to 30 mm. According to Hilco, its control systems are equipped with newly upgraded motors, drives and quality measurement technology. It can work with cold-cast steel, bearing steel, tool steel, spring steel, free-cutting steel, welding and PC steel.
"The mill system offers customers a strategic way to enter the high-demand wire rod and rolled rod markets or expand their operations," Hilco says.
FNSteel was bought last month by the German company Saarstahl after it was acquired by British Steel in 2017 (see Kallanish passim).
