The German waste recycling company TSR Group and thyssenkrupp Steel have signed a long-term supply agreement for the branded processed product TSR - TSR40, Kallanish reports.
The TSR40 is made exclusively from materials that are used after use, such as end-of-life vehicles or mixed scrap metal. It has been produced on an industrial scale at TSR's recycling plant in Duisburg since 2023, and also in Hamburg and Amsterdam since 2024.
The technical characteristics guaranteed by TSR allow the material to be used for tk Steel blast furnaces, reducing CO2 emissions and thus creating the basis for bluemint steel production. According to TK Steel, bluemint-made tape is suitable for all common applications such as automotive, packaging, home appliance manufacturing, transformers, wind turbines, and electric vehicles.
With the exception of reducing specific CO2 emissions, the properties of bluemint Steel material do not differ from those of traditional steel grades claimed by tk Steel.
The TSR Duisburg plant began operations in May 2025 to process up to 450,000 tons of raw materials into TSR40 per year. It was developed in collaboration with tk Steel as part of the government-sponsored REDERS research project. REDERS is a German acronym meaning "reducing CO2 emissions by increasing the share of recycled materials in steel production."
