Italian long-range producer Pittini is investing in the reconstruction of its SiderPotenza rolling mill in the south of the country.
With a hot start planned for 2027, the project will increase production efficiency while reducing gas consumption for heating workpieces and overall CO2 emissions in line with the Pittini Group's sustainability strategy, Kallanish notes.
The contract was signed with the Italian equipment manufacturer Danieli. During the reconstruction, a new rolling mill with 20 SHS cassette crates will be installed, which will increase the size of the workpiece to 165 mm. This configuration is intended to prepare the plant for the installation of a roll winding line, initially producing rolls weighing 2.5 tons, with the possibility of further upgrading to rolls weighing 5 tons by installing a horizontal machine for welding workpieces (HBW).
The upgraded mill will provide an existing line for the production of bars from 2x8 mm to 40 mm in size, as well as a future line for winding coils from 10 mm to 25 mm in diameter. Danieli notes that safety and working conditions will be improved thanks to advanced design solutions.
One of the main objectives is to complete the project within 45 days, which is achieved through customized design and careful pre-assembly, which minimizes on-site installation and commissioning time, he adds.
