In the context of a general decline in the cost of steel in Russia, prices rose in some types of construction products by early February. The positive dynamics can be explained by the increase in metallurgists' costs, the shortage of some products and the desire of buyers to build stocks before the start of the season. However, demand for steel in construction is not expected to grow this year.

Some items of metal products used in construction rose in price by 25-445 rubles per ton over the last week of January, depending on the type, according to the data from the Rusmet rating agency, which is referenced by the Kommersant newspaper. The cost of I—beams in the domestic market reached 82.12 thousand rubles per ton, electric—welded pipes - 58.32 thousand rubles per ton, water and gas pipes - 58.25 thousand rubles per ton. Prices have strengthened for the first time since the beginning of this year.
Construction rolled products began to rise in price amid falling prices for other types of metal products, in particular cold-rolled and hot-rolled coils.
According to Nikanor Khalin, senior analyst for the metallurgical and mining sector at Euler Analytical Technologies, prices for 44 items including VAT have decreased among 116 items of long products, shaped rolled products and hardware since the beginning of the year, and only 13 items have increased.
In January—February, domestic prices for construction rental have stabilized after a long period of decline, says Alexander Semin, director of Gazprombank's Center for Economic Forecasting. But he expects an increase in demand for these products only in March and April — with the beginning of a revival in construction activity, at the same time, a slight increase in prices is possible.
