ArcelorMittal to resume operation of enrichment plant No. 1 in Fos-sur-Mer in June

ArcelorMittal plans to restart blast furnace No. 1 at its plant in Fos-sur—Mer in southern France in June, bringing the number of operating units at the site to two, the company said.

Bunker No. 1 is currently undergoing maintenance aimed at extending its service life. The station's other power unit, DP No. 2, was restarted in December 2025 after a nearly three-month shutdown due to a fire.

The decision to return to work in twin blast furnaces reflects expectations that EU protective measures, in particular import restrictions and the carbon dioxide Emissions Control mechanism (CBAM), will be effectively implemented to support the domestic steel industry, the company said.

The final phase of CBAM began on January 1, while the new EU tariff quotas[url=https://mccloskey.opisnet.com/content/article/global-steel-trade-measures-tracker-February]are expected to replace the existing protective measures, which expire on June 30, 2026.

Earlier this month, ArcelorMittal also announced that it had begun preparations to restart production No. 3 at its Dombrowa Górnic steel mill in Poland.
