On Tuesday, March 24, the Marriott Hotel Asia in Istanbul hosted the EUROMETAL Steel Day and the YISAD conference on sheet steel, organized in collaboration with SteelOrbis, attended by about 400 people.
For the 11th year in a row, this event, which has gained international status in recent years due to the participation of Eurometal, is sponsored by Tatmetal, as well as other sponsors, including Agir Haddecilik, Yatirim Finansman, Gökmetal and Yametaş.
In his opening remarks, Typhoon Isheri, Chairman of the Turkish Association of Importers and Manufacturers of Flat Rolled Products (YISAD), expressed satisfaction with the great interest in the conference, despite the difficult global conditions, noting that it created a productive platform for the exchange of knowledge and experience between the speakers
.Referring to global developments, Mr. Isheri noted that the rolled steel sector has faced numerous challenges in recent years, including the war between Russia and Ukraine, the earthquakes in Turkey, and events in Gaza and the Middle East. Stressing that trade costs have increased and protectionist tendencies have intensified over this period, he said that expectations for fighting inflation and lowering interest rates also appear to have been postponed.
Noting that there are serious demand problems in the flat rolled products sector, the Chairman of YISAD stated that many companies have started to slow down their planned investments. Stating that it is difficult to find a short—term solution to current problems, Isheri added that platforms such as the EUROMETAL - YISAD conference are of great importance for bringing industry players together on a common basis.
