Bogusław Oleksy, CEO of Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa (JSW), resigned effective October 31 and will take up the position of chief financial officer at Polish coal company Polska Grupa Górnicza, Kallanish reports.
He had held the position of JSW chief executive on a permanent basis since May, having served as acting CEO since October 2025.
State-owned Polish company JSW, which focuses primarily on coking coal mining, has been unable to retain a chief executive for more than two and a half years—the length of Tomasz Cudny’s term. This pattern has continued since 2015, when longtime company head Jarosław Zagórowski stepped down.
JSW must now find a new leader to head the company through a difficult restructuring amid heavy losses and rising debt.
In the third quarter, JSW’s external coking coal sales rose 7% year on year to 1.77 million tonnes. Coke sales, however, fell 8% to 720,000 tonnes. Despite the increase in sales, coking coal output declined 3.5% to 2.77 million tonnes, while coke production fell 17% to 740,000 tonnes.
The company had to isolate the C-2 longwall (seam 505/1) at the Borynia-Zofiówka mine after carbon monoxide concentrations there increased. JSW is taking measures, including at other mines, to offset the resulting production losses.
