Energy transformation requires steel, but manufacturers cannot withstand the costs.

The steel industry is facing serious challenges related to the energy transition. Steel producers are unable to cover the costs of switching to low-carbon technologies on their own, Silvia Vinyarek-Erdogan, spokeswoman for ArcelorMittal Poland, told Strefa Biznesu.

She emphasized the key role of steel in the process of energy transformation, without which there would be no photovoltaic panels, wind farms, electric vehicles, etc.

ArcelorMittal Poland is facing the need to decarbonize its steelmaking processes. This requires the construction of new installations and the introduction of innovative technologies. Vinyarek-Erdogan drew attention to the rising energy prices, which are a significant obstacle to the implementation of these plans. The steel industry is calling for their reduction, which would contribute to the transformation.

A spokeswoman for ArcelorMittal Poland did not comment on the issue of negotiations with the country's Ministry of Finance on state support.

Earlier, Deputy Speaker of the Sejm Wlodzimierz Charzasty said that negotiations on state support for this private company are ongoing. During his visit to Dombrovskiy basin, he stressed the importance of investments for the region and the whole country.
