Global steel production in January-June 2025 amounted to 934.3 million tons, which is 2.2% lower than in January-June 2024 (955.4 million tons), Worldsteel reported. In June, global steel production also decreased by 5.8%, to 151.4 million tons.
In the first half of the year, almost all regions of the world showed a decrease in smelting volumes, except for Africa, where production increased by 4.1% year-on-year to 11.4 million tons.
The countries of Asia and Oceania reduced steel production by 1.9% YoY, to 693.9 million tons. In the European Union (27), production fell by 3.3% to 65.4 million tons. In other European countries, production fell by 7.1% to 20.8 million tons. Russia, the CIS countries and Ukraine reduced steel production by 5.4%, to 41.6 million tons. in the Middle East, production decreased by 5.4%, to 27.5 million tons. North American countries reduced smelting by 0.6%, to 53.2 million tons. And in South America, the drop was 0.4%, to 20.5 million tons.
The leader among the countries is China, which produced 514.8 million tons of steel in six months (-3% YoY). According to the results of the first half of the year, Ukraine rose from 22 to 21 positions among 71 steel-producing countries with a result of 3.68 million tons (-4.9% yoy), Ukrmetallurgprom added.
