China's largest steel province, Hebei, plans to introduce more than 20 categories of environmentally friendly steel products by 2026 as part of its annual key objectives.
This happened after the Hebei Green Steel brand was introduced earlier this year, the country's first low-Co₂ brand at the provincial level, designed to accelerate production adoption.
Earlier this week, the provincial Department of Industry and Information Technology told local media that it plans to release more than 20 categories of environmentally friendly steel products from Hebei Province, as well as launch targeted promotions to ensure that these products are featured in 10 key steel-consuming sectors in the province.
The ministry also stated that Hebei will promote the development of environmentally friendly electricity generation and hydrogen metallurgy by supporting steel enterprises to develop direct connections to environmentally friendly energy sources through either self-construction of facilities or market partnerships.
Priority support will be provided to Zhangxuan Technology's hydrogen-powered steel mill within the HBIS Group so that it can make full use of nearby wind and solar resources, integrate renewable energy and clean hydrogen into low-co₂ steel production, and create a demonstration model for zero-carbon conversion. in the department.
In March, the province released the first batch of 27 Hebei Green Steel branded products, mainly related to product categories such as rebar, billet, hot-rolled steel sheet and strip.
In addition to the green rod, the province is committed to introducing a range of high-quality products to fill supply gaps at the national and provincial levels. For example, using the Beijing Shougang division in Hebei Province, the province is implementing a project to produce 0.1 million tons per year of high-strength electrical steel with grain, which will solve the problem of global shortage of high-quality electrical steel with high magnetic induction.
Four basic projects "Artificial Intelligence + steel" and the expansion of centralized procurement for bulk materials such as ores and metallurgical coke are also on the agenda to help local producers reduce costs.
These provincial efforts are consistent with a broader national commitment to green transition at all stages of the supply chain.
