Feralpi Stahl plans to expand production facilities

One year after the launch of its Elbe Stahlwerke rolling mill, Feralpi positively assesses the expansion of its production facilities.

The German reinforcement plant of the Italian Feralpi group intends to increase its production capacity from about 1 million tons of rolled products per year to 1.3 million tons of rolled products per year. The basis for the expansion is the full-fledged operation of the new rolling mill.

The technology supplied by Danieli allows the use of a new method for the production of rebar in rolls. At the coil plant, the wire rod is processed directly from the rolled core into a wound ring. Previously, this was a two-stage process of hot rolling and cold drawing, followed by winding on a coil.

"Now that we see a new product gaining popularity in the market, we need to take production to a new level with the bobbin mill," says Managing Director Uwe Reinecke.

The plant, located in Riese, Saxony, was officially launched on May 15 last year and has been operating in two shifts ever since. At the moment, the plant has produced about 850,000 tons of products. A fully operational bobbin mill will add another 400-450,000 tons per year.

Management plans to increase production by 1 million tons this year, as Reinecke previously informed Kallanish (see Kallanish dated April 16, 2026). Next year, the bobbin shop will be switched to a three-shift operation mode.
