Ukraine and the EU will cooperate in the field of raw materials and battery production. The Prime Minister of Ukraine Denis Shmygal and Vice President of the European Commission Shefchovich have agreed on a new direction of cooperation, the State Service of Geology and Mineral Resources of Ukraine reported. We are talking, in particular, about the manufacture of lithium-ion batteries, the demand for which is sharply increasing today in connection with the EU's course towards a climate neutral continent.
Ukraine has a huge untapped potential in the production of lithium and cobalt. This is an area where we can take the lead in the world, attract investment, create processing plants and create new jobs. The EU is ready to support Ukraine in this direction, and therefore will expand the technical support program by an additional 800,000 euros.
“We value the trust of our European partners and, as the State Geological Service, will make every effort to create comfortable conditions for the implementation of the strategic partnership program in this direction,” commented Roman Opimakh, Chairman of Dergeonadr.
In order to attract investments in the extraction of minerals of the future in Ukraine, including lithium, the regulator has already prepared a number of investment proposals and presented them at the international level.
As a reminder, the State Service of Geology and Mineral Resources of Ukraine has prepared three lithium investment proposals - Shevchenko site, Krutaya Balka, Dobra site. Also, subsoil users are offered for development objects with deposits of titanium, nickel, cobalt, chromium, molybdenum, tantalum, zirconium and other critical minerals.
