In an interview with Bloomberg TV, Linamar CEO Linda Hasenfraz expressed the opinion that she does not consider it logical that the United States and Canada have a free trade agreement, as countries continue to levy duties on steel and aluminum from each other. She's sure it doesn't make sense.
“Tariffs have a significant impact, mainly on US companies,” she added, citing General Motors and Ford, who said tariffs undermine their bottom line.
She is confident that the industry will not be able to withstand such costs for a long time, which will provoke a rise in prices and affect demand. Hasenfraz calls for tariff elimination in the interests of economic growth and prosperity for North American companies. This, in her opinion, will increase investment growth and create more jobs.
Earlier, Canada responded by imposing similar taxes imposed by US President Donald Trump at 25 percent for steel and 10 percent for aluminum.
