A big stage in the history of the enterprise and the entire city is behind us, said Alexey Texler, Governor of the Chelyabinsk Region.

"A lot has been done for the country, but we need to move on. I would like to note that all employees will be employed."

This is a historic event for Chelyabinsk and its residents, the ecology of the city. For the first time, harmful industries are leaving the central part of the city. This will provide new opportunities for the development of the city and for its future, the governor added.

In February 2024, during a visit to Chelyabinsk, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that CHEMK's harmful production should be moved outside the city.

The shutdown of electrode production entails a direct and very significant environmental effect, said Anatoly Brovko, CEO of CHEMK.

"First of all, I must say that the emission rate approved for CHEMK in 2024 by the supervisory environmental authorities was about 18 thousand tons per year, and our actual volume last year was 5.6 thousand tons, that is, more than three times lower than the officially permitted standard. And after the shutdown of electrode production, this figure will decrease by 330 tons per year. But more importantly, the release of harmful substances such as benzapyrene, formaldehyde, nitrogen dioxide, sulfur dioxide, carbon monoxide (carbon monoxide) and coal dust will be stopped. From this moment on, the plant will become a practically environmentally safe enterprise."

Currently, the company is provided with a high density of electrode products. In the future, it is planned to purchase electrodes from third-party manufacturers to maintain stable operation.

The production of graphitized electrodes in Chelyabinsk began in 1934. This was a necessary measure due to economic sanctions imposed by the West - the German company Siemens stopped supplying electrodes to the USSR, which jeopardized the entire domestic metallurgical industry. After a series of technological experiments and tests in CHEMK's melting furnaces, self-made electrodes were put into operation. Subsequently, they began to be used in other metallurgical enterprises of the country.

Chelyabinsk Electrometallurgical Combine JSC is the largest producer of ferroalloys in Russia. The range of products includes more than 120 names of ferroalloys, more than 40 products of electrode production.
