The company will provide its own pellets to CherMK blast furnaces and decommission a number of sintering machines that have a negative impact on the environment.
The reduction of greenhouse gas emissions as a result of changes in pig iron production technology will amount to more than 2 million tons per year, and pollutants – 96 thousand tons per year. At the same time, the project provides for the best available technologies in the field of environmental protection.
In addition to the significant environmental impact, the project will also strengthen Severstal's leadership in cost reduction.
In parallel, the construction of galleries and conveyor equipment for feeding raw materials, pelletizers, ball and vertical mills, and electrical and power equipment continues at the construction site.
The company expects to launch the new production facility on time – in the second half of 2026.
The cost of the investment project is 116 billion rubles. The new production capacity will amount to 10 million tons of pellets per year, which will completely eliminate the use of agglomerate and switch to a more efficient and environmentally friendly blast furnace technology.
