Ukraine has lowered the forecast of steel production in 2020 is 7%, as compared to the year 2019 4.1%, to 20 million tons.

In Ukraine, the forecast drop in steel production by 7% in 2020

Metallurgical enterprises of Ukraine in 2020, according to the updated forecast will reduce steel output by 4.1%, to 20 million tonnes compared with actual production in 2019 of $ 20,848 million tons, and by 7% compared with the initial forecast, when it predicted crude steel production in the country in the current year in the amount of 21.5 million tons.

As reported in an updated estimated balance of education and consumption of scrap metal in Ukraine for 2020, released by the Ukrainian Association of secondary metals ("Uavtormet") on Friday, the forecast of steel production for the current year in the amount of 20 million tons adjusted Association "Ukrmetallurgprom".

According to the updated balance, to produce 20 million tonnes of steel at the metallurgical enterprises of Ukraine will need to supply 2.7 million tons of ferrous metals (a decrease of 10.3% compared to the 2019 year, when it was delivered 3,011 million tons of imported scrap). It is also projected that the export of scrap metal from Ukraine in the current year will amount to 50 thousand tons, whereas in 2019, it was 40.9 thousand tons (growth on 22,2%). The import of scrap in 2020 will amount to 50 thousand tons of scrap (in 2019 – 47.7 thousand tons, rising by 4.8%).

At the same time, according to the estimated balance sheet, scrap metal storage in 2020 will be reduced by 18.2% compared to the year 2019 – up to 2,750 million tonnes (2019, 3 million 360,7 thousand tons).

Also States that in January-April 2020 Ukraine reduced steel production by 9.5% compared to the same period last year to 6,731 million tons. During this period the metallurgical enterprises of the country placed 901,1 thousand tons of scrap metal (a decrease of 8.7% compared to 4 months.-2019). The export of scrap metal from Ukraine for 4 months. decreased by 59.1%, to 11.6 thousand tons, import – by 74,6%, to 5.7 million tons. Procurement of scrap metal for the period was down 10.2% to 958.3 thousand tons.

As reported in the published in March this year, the letter "Uavtormet" to the economy Ministry, Ukraine in 2020 as originally forecast to increase steel output by 3.1% compared with the previous year to 21.5 million tons from 20,848 million tons, which will require them to supply 3.2 million tons of ferrous metals (an increase of 6.3% compared to the 2019 year, when it was delivered 3,011 million tons of imported scrap).

According to the estimated balance of education and consumption of scrap metal in Ukraine for the year 2020, the overall production of 21.5 million tonnes of steel required 7,510 million tons of scrap metal, while for the production of 20,848 million tons of steel in 2019 had spent 7 million 229,7 thousand tons of steel. Thus, according to forecast, "Uavtormet" in 2020 as it was previously predicted that it would take the scrap metal by 3.9% more than in 2019.

the Association stated that in 2019, the quantity of recycled scrap amounted to 4 million 218,7 thousand tons, and in 2020 it is expected to increase by 2.2%, to 4,310 million tons. Thus, according to the estimated balance sheet, scrap metal storage in 2020 is expected to increase by 6.4% compared to the year 2019 – up to 3,250 million tonnes (2019 – 3,052 million tonnes).

it was Also estimated that the export of scrap metal from Ukraine in the current year will amount to 50 thousand tons, whereas in 2019, it was 40.9 thousand tons (growth on 22,2%). The import of scrap in 2020 will amount to 50 thousand tons of scrap (in 2019 – 47.7 thousand tons, rising by 4.8%).

Ukraine in 2019, reduced the export of scrap metal in 7.8 times compared to the 2018 year - to 42,182 thousand tons. Last year, the country increased its import of metal scrap in real terms by 17.2% compared to the 2018 year - to 49,934 thousand tons.

At the end of 2019 steelmakers have reduced steel production by 1% compared to the 2018 year - to 20,848 million tons, iron - by 2% to 20,064 million tons.
