Kolchuginsky plant "Elektrokabel" (part of the "Cable Alliance Holding", which unites the cable assets of UMMC) carried out a half-million test of finished products.
The study was jubilee physical and mechanical properties of the sheath of a 10 kV power cable with XLPE insulation. The cable is widely used in large power engineering for power supply of enterprises, residential neighborhoods, large shopping and entertainment centers.
“During installation and operation, the cable experiences various kinds of loads: climatic, mechanical, chemical. And the service life of cable products as a whole will depend on how the insulation and sheath behave. The task of our specialists is to determine whether the cable is ready to withstand real operating conditions, "said Natalya Tarakanova, head of the EKZ test center.
To determine the physical and mechanical properties of the cable, specialists place sheath samples (plates of a certain thickness) into a tensile testing machine. They are inserted into special clamps and stretched with a force of 24 kg. The computer program compares the obtained indicators with the standard values, on the basis of which a conclusion is made about the strength of the cable sheath.
“The number of tests since the establishment of the Central Factory Laboratory in 1955 (today the Test Center) has grown tenfold - now their held about 16,000 per year. And this is quite understandable: the plant is constantly expanding the range of products, the requirements for both cables and materials used are growing. To be competitive, we are modernizing the testing base, purchasing modern equipment, mastering new types of tests and research, ”said Alexander Komnik, Deputy Director for Quality and Certification of EKZ JSC.
