At JSC Uralelectromed (an enterprise of the metallurgical complex of UMMC), concrete works on pouring the foundation of the third stage of the copper electrolysis workshop are coming to an end. Now builders are installing sub-series ramps for electrolysis baths, frame beams and ventilation ducts.
To date, 60% of ventilation ducts have been built. For these purposes, it took about 215 cubic meters of concrete.
- We need to prepare sites for DEK cranes (diesel-electric cranes) as soon as possible, after which we will be able to continue the installation of the main columns and in the near future begin the installation of connections and crane girders, - said Stanislav Manin, chief specialist for the reconstruction of the copper electrolysis workshop.
In September next year, the builders plan to work in a closed thermal circuit. At the moment, the builders have equipped the transport span with twenty columns. In total, there will be 72 of them in the third stage.
The third stage of the copper electrolysis shop will operate in the same way as the first two - using a baseless technology using stainless steel cathodes. The new facility will house one circulation system, consisting of 224 electrolysis baths with associated process equipment (tanks, pumps, heat exchangers). The project also provides for the installation of two automated lines - an anode preparation machine and an anode scrap washing machine.
Recall that in February 2012, Uralelectromed JSC commissioned the first stage of a modern electrolysis shop with a capacity of 160 thousand tons of cathode copper per year. In May 2018, the second stage with a similar capacity was launched. The new production facility, which is scheduled to be completed in 2022, will allow the company to produce a total of up to 400,000 tonnes of copper cathodes per year.
