Hergarten Stahlspedition, Germany's largest specialized steel transportation company, intends to switch its fleet to electric vehicles, which will reduce CO2 emissions from road transport. ,
,The company has been considering electrification for some time and has now launched a transition campaign, known as E-Mission 2031, with the aim of gradually transforming its fleet over the next five years.
The goal of the project is "to make a sustainable contribution to the decarbonization of logistics," managing owner Marcel Hergarten reportedly said in a Eurotransport publication.
According to the manager, transporting large-tonnage steel by electric traction is a very difficult task.
"This requires careful route planning, selection of suitable vehicles, and close coordination with customers," Hergarten is quoted as saying. He notes that technical improvements in recent years now make it possible to increase battery power and flight range.
In addition to its climate ambitions, Hergarten is convinced that the future of road freight transportation requires joint efforts with customers, partners and employees.
