General manager
Salzgitter Gunnar Grobler calls on the German state to support the introduction of low-emission steel, Kallanish reports.
"We need a policy that actively shapes the markets of tomorrow," Grobler writes in a post on social media.
"The crucial test here is government procurement. The government needs to live up to its role as a pioneer. If there are reasonable incentives, such as the use of low-CO2 steel in the automotive fleet, the use of such steel by automakers makes regulatory and economic sense. This would create a demand that cannot be achieved with simple subsidies," says Grobler.
In the first half of the fiscal year, the German steel producer showed "encouraging results," prompting the company to revise its previous profit forecast. Revenue
In the first half of 2025, it amounted to 4.6 billion euros (5.3 billion dollars), which is slightly lower than in the first half of 2025 compared with 4.7 billion euros a year earlier. However, Ebitda of 459 million euros "significantly exceeded" the previous result of 117 million euros.
The main factors were exceptionally high earnings from participation in Aurubis copper producer and technology division.
At the same time, the divisions specializing in steel production and trade also improved their performance. The figures, however, were more weighed down by the geopolitical uncertainty caused by the war in the Middle East. Steel production
Crude increased by 100,000 tons to 3 million tons. At the same time, thanks to the profit improvement program, the company has made a steady contribution of 97 million euros.
In addition, in the first half of the year, the group decided to acquire full ownership of the Krupp-Mannesmann (HKM) plant in Duisburg. The full inclusion of HKM prompted us to revise our forecasts for fiscal year 2026 upward again in mid-July," says Chief Financial Officer Birgit Potrafki. - Given the various geopolitical and economic uncertainties, the group expects only a moderate improvement in the overall business environment.
The Group expects full-year revenue of 10 billion euros and Ebitda of 725-825 million euros.
