A government delegation visited Mechel's Chelyabinsk enterprises

Mechel PAO's General Director Oleg Korzhov took a tour of the production sites of the Chelyabinsk Metallurgical Combine and Mechel-Coke Plant and spoke about the company's environmental measures within the framework of the Clean Air federal project of the Ecology national project.
The delegation includes: Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Victoria Abramchenko, Deputy Minister of Natural Resources of the Russian Federation and Environment Murad Kerimov, Head of Rosprirodnadzor Svetlana Radionova, Governor of the Chelyabinsk Region Alexei Teksler.
The delegation inspected the production of Mechel -Coke". In recent years, the plant has reconstructed two benzene sections, a pitch-coke block and two coke oven batteries. The nearest plans of the plant are optimization of coke oven batteries operation, reconstruction of coke shop №1. All the events held meet the requirements of the best available technologies (BAT).
Further, the delegation headed by Victoria Abramchenko visited the oxygen-converter shop of the Chelyabinsk Metallurgical Plant. The guests examined the converter # 1, updated in 2020. The unit was actually rebuilt, equipped with a modern three-stage gas cleaning system, which minimizes emissions during steelmaking.
Victoria Abramchenko appreciated Mechel's work in fulfilling the environmental plan and noted the importance of continuing its implementation. In accordance with the objectives of the federal project "Clean Air" in 2019, the company signed a four-way agreement with the Ministry of Ecology of Russia, Rosprirodnadzor and the governor of the Chelyabinsk region to reduce the impact on the atmosphere. On January 28, 2021, Mechel signed another environmental agreement with Governor Alexey Teksler, under which it took on additional obligations to reduce emissions of pollutants. Thus, following the implementation of the planned measures to reduce the impact on the atmosphere, the company is implementing a program with a total funding of about 13 billion rubles, which will reduce emissions by more than 15 thousand tons per year.
