OJSC Sredneuralsky Copper Smelting Plant (an enterprise of the metallurgical complex of UMMC) became a laureate of the National Technology Prize "Big Ural" for its work to reduce environmental hazards and support social initiatives.
At SUMZ today, almost in full ( by 99.7%), process sulfur-containing gases, including converter gases, are utilized. Around 1.2 million tons of copper-smelting slags are processed annually, including 500-600 thousand tons of old-aged and all current slags. The wastewater of the enterprise is treated to discharge standards.
On July 11, at the international industrial exhibition INNOPROM-2019, an award ceremony was held for the winners of the Big Ural National Technology Prize. OJSC SUMZ was represented by Deputy Director of OJSC SUMZ - Chief Ecologist of the plant Marina Sycheva. A diploma and a memento were presented to her by the head of the working group on ecology and nature management of the Expert Council under the Government of the Russian Federation, member of the Public Council under the Ministry of Natural Resources of Russia Rashid Ismailov and Chairman of the regional public organization "Ural Environmental Initiative" Olga Startseva.
The Big Ural National Technology Prize has been awarded since 2016, awarded annually. It is carried out to identify and encourage effective developments in the field of waste recycling. resource conservation, cleaner production, environmental education and awareness, social initiatives, as well as to draw public attention to the problems of environmental protection and the development of sustainable development principles in Russia.
