In the section rolling shop №1 of the Oskol electrometallurgical plant named after A.A. Ugarov (part of the Metalloinvest company), the newest integrated installation for monitoring internal and surface defects of circular billets from the Cherepovets company Nordinkraft was put into pilot operation. The volume of investments amounted to 200 million rubles.
The new equipment detects internal defects with a size of 1 mm and more and surface defects with a depth of 0.2 mm and a length of 10 mm in round blanks. The control accuracy is almost doubled.
“The project is part of a comprehensive program for the development of the plant, aimed at improving the quality and increasing the production of high-quality long products,” said the managing director of OEMK im. A.A. Ugarova Alexey Kushnarev. “Next year, a second installation will be installed in this shop - to detect defects in billets of square and round sections, as well as an automated press and a multi-roll machine for straightening billets.”
To detect internal defects in the new installation, a non-contact phased array method is used, or a full scan of the entire section of the workpiece with ultrasound. Surface defects are detected using electromagnetic waves.
High-quality long products (Special Bar Quality, SBQ) are used in mechanical engineering, used in the production of aircraft and ship parts. Connecting rods, camshafts and crankshafts of internal combustion engines, gear wheels, shafts and gear shafts of gearboxes, steering parts, rods, struts and shock absorber springs are made from it.
OEMK products are supplied to enterprises of the machine-building industry in Russia and in more than 30 countries.
Key consumers are the leading Russian and international automakers KAMAZ, AVTOVAZ, Volkswagen, Peugeot, as well as the world's largest bearing manufacturers - Schaeffler and SKF.
