At the ball rolling mill of the Oskol electrometallurgical plant named after A.A. Ugarov (part of the Metalloinvest company), an electromagnetic overhead crane was installed. The unit will move up to 700 tons of raw materials per day for the production of steel grinding balls, which is 300 tons more than a conventional crane.
“Compared to the previously used non-magnetic cranes, the new equipment allows to speed up the process of metal delivery and increase production volumes, - commented Dmitry Koshelev, chief specialist for technical issues of section rolling shop No. 1 of OEMK im. A.A. Ugarov. “In addition, the amount of manual labor required during loading is significantly reduced, and the process is controlled from the crane cabin, which makes it possible to increase the safety of work.”
The crane was manufactured in Naberezhnye Chelny. Its carrying capacity is 10 tons, the span height is 12.7 meters. The unit is able not only to move loads, but also to automatically determine the weight of a package of blanks. The equipment was purchased as part of Metalloinvest's investment program to increase the productivity of the ball rolling mill.
