Timely replacement of car tires is one of the keys to comfortable and safe driving. For removed tires, it is necessary to provide suitable storage conditions so that when the new season begins, they do not lose their performance characteristics. First of all, you need to choose a place where summer or winter tires on your car will “wait” for their time. This must be a room in which the conditions meet the following requirements:
- Temperature from +10 to +25 degrees Celsius. There should be no heating radiators, pipes or other heat sources in the immediate vicinity of the area reserved for tire placement.
- Protection from precipitation and humidity level within 50 - 60%.
- Good ventilation or regular airing.
- Protection from the penetration of ultraviolet rays, which have a destructive effect on rubber.
Well-equipped garages, storage rooms or heated balconies meet these criteria, where not direct sunlight penetrates.
Unheated utility rooms and cold basements with high levels of humidity and musty air are not suitable for storing summer tires. Also, you cannot put summer tires in a metal garage located in an unshaded place for the summer - the walls get very hot from the sun, which will not have the best effect on the safety of the products.

If a car owner decides in advance to buy tires for a car in Ukraine for the next season, it does not require preliminary preparation for storage. If desired, tires can be packed in separate fabric covers or linen bags for each item. When the tires have already been in use, they need to be cleared of small stones and debris accumulated in the tread, washed of dirt, wiped and allowed to dry completely. You should also check to make sure there is no damage.
When sending tires with rims for storage, it is appropriate to take into account the following recommendations:
- Summer or winter tires on rims should not be stored in vertical position. After a few months of being in this position, they may become slightly deformed. Despite the fact that this deformation is invisible to the naked eye, it negatively affects the service life of the products and their performance characteristics. If there is no other option other than vertical storage, you need to rotate each wheel 90 degrees every month.
- The tire assembly can also be hung (each piece individually). In this case, most of the load will be on the metal disk, and not on the rubber itself.
- Another way is to stack the wheels one on top of the other. In this case, you can slightly reduce the pressure in the tires, and change them in places about once a month to prevent too high a load on the products located below.
Rubber without rims is best stored vertically, since some with a tread that is thicker and tougher than the side sections. To prevent possible deformations, it is advisable to use a semicircular surface as a support. You cannot leave tires without rims in a horizontal position for a long time - in such a situation, the ones located below may lose their original shape.
