Dropping the PS5 controller does not always lead to an obvious breakdown. The case can remain intact, the buttons are pressed, the indicator is on, and the gamepad seems to connect to the console. But after a few minutes, oddities appear: the character moves by himself, the stick is triggered jerkily, the button is pressed every other time, the charging disappears, the vibration becomes weaker, or the controller turns off during the game. Such symptoms indicate that an impact could damage the internal elements, even if the device looks normal from the outside.
DualSense is more complicated than a conventional wired controller. Inside there are sticks, cables, a battery, a board, a charging connector, a microphone, a speaker, vibration motors, adaptive triggers and button pads. When falling, the load is unevenly distributed: one impact can affect the stick, another on the connector, and the third on soldering or fastening inside the case. Therefore, unstable operation after a fall does not require guesswork, but consistent diagnosis.
What are the symptoms after the PS5 controller crashes?
The malfunction may occur immediately or after a while. Sometimes the gamepad crashes, then turns on and works as usual, and the problems start later — after charging, playing an active game, or reconnecting. This is due to the fact that microcracks, loose contacts, or partially damaged fasteners could appear inside.
After a fall, owners often notice such signs:
- The stick began to move the character or camera away;
- The buttons are pressed tightly, they stick or do not always work.;
- The controller turns off during the game;
- The gamepad does not charge or charges only at an angle.;
- adaptive triggers began to click, creak, or lose resistance.;
- The vibration has become weaker, louder, or disappeared completely.;
- the case started to play or crackle when pressed;
- The touchpad reacts with a delay or does not work.;
- the sound from the built-in speaker has become quieter or is wheezing;
- The gamepad is not detected by the console the first time.
Even one of these signs already indicates the need for verification. If there are problems with charging, sticks and connection at the same time after the fall, the probability of internal damage becomes much higher.
Why doesn't an external inspection show the real problem
The DualSense case is quite durable, so it may not get visible cracks after falling on carpet, laminate or tile. But there are small elements inside the controller that don't like sharp bumps. The plastic fasteners may shift, the cable may partially come out of the connector, the soldering may get a microcrack, and the stick mechanism may begin to transmit inaccurate signals.
Externally, the user sees only buttons, sticks, connector
