DIN 6914 bolts: characteristics and use

According to DIN 6914, high-strength bolts are produced, the head of which is made in the form of a hexagon. The head of the hardware has an increased turnkey size. Accuracy class of fasteners C. Bolts are designed to connect prestressed elements of metal structures, which are subjected to increased loads during operation.

Characteristics of bolts made according to DIN 6914

Bolts DIN 6914 have a standard design. Hardware consists of a hexagonal head, which is attached to a metal rod with an incomplete thread. High strength bolts DIN 6914 are available in nominal thread diameters from M12 to M36 ... The thread pitch depends on the size of the fastener and ranges from 1.75 to 4 mm. Bolt head height - from 8 to 23 mm. The total length of the hardware is from 30 to 200 mm.

Bolts made according to DIN 6914 can be used in conjunction with nuts made according to DIN 6915, washers DIN 6916 (flat). Bolts manufactured according to the following standards are analogous to DIN 6914 hardware:

  • GOST R 52644-2006;
  • GOST 22353-77;
  • EN 14399-4;
  • ISO 7412.

Bolts DIN 6914 are in greatest demand in the field of mechanical engineering. In particular, they are used to install motors, as well as create flange connections that will experience dynamic and static loads. In addition, hardware is used in the field of construction and instrument making, in the installation and repair of equipment.

Materials used for production

The main material for the production of bolts according to DIN 6914 is carbon and cold-resistant steel with strength class 10.9, 12.9, 110 KhL. Manufacturers offer so-called uncoated black hardware, as well as fasteners coated with a zinc layer. Galvanizing is carried out by galvanic, thermal diffusion or hot method.

Bolts that will be used in a humid environment, under conditions of exposure to sea water, are made of stainless steels A2, AISI 304 and AISI 305. Fasteners used in alkaline and acidic environments must be made of stainless steel A4 (AISI 316) .

Another material used to produce DIN 6914 bolts is brass. Alloy of copper with zinc has excellent performance characteristics: strength, non-magnetic, corrosion resistance. Brass hardware is resistant to various types of loads.

The quality of DIN 6914 bolts and their compliance with standards must be confirmed by a certificate. This document must be provided to buyers by each manufacturer of fasteners.
