Composite materials from the manufacturer

Artificially manufactured materials are increasingly being used in the fields of aircraft, ship construction and mechanical engineering. These include prepreg fiber – sheets of woven or non-woven semi-finished products impregnated with uncured polymer binders.

Features of composite materials

Two-component composite materials include:

  • The reinforcing base is a fibrous filler made from threads or bundles. Carbon, glass, polymer, and basalt fibers are considered the most common.
  • Binders are special thermosetting polyester, phenolic, polyamide or epoxy binders and resins. At room temperature, such resins are not susceptible to hardening and are in a liquid state, which makes it easy to technologically impregnate reinforcing fibers.

Practical application

For practical use (for example, the manufacture of the hull of a ship, aircraft or car body), two types of sheets are produced, each of which is impregnated with its own substance. The installation is carried out in layers with alternation. As a result of the chemical reaction that occurs between their impregnations, they form a monolithic structure.

The products are delivered in bundles or in rolls (depending on the thickness of the sheet) with a protective film applied to the surface. It is removed immediately before use.

Prepreg fiber for durable composites

Prepreg fiber from ITEKMA is a modern material based on carbon or glass fabrics pre—impregnated with high-quality bonding systems. Such a semi-finished product greatly facilitates the production of composite parts, providing stable quality, high strength, resistance to temperatures up to 250 ° C and reliable design during operation.

Advantages of using

The qualitative characteristics and positive properties of prepregs depend on a professional approach to choosing the type of reinforcing filler and binder. The main advantages of using resin-impregnated sheets:

  • High strength and rigidity — the prepreg design ensures a more uniform distribution of reinforcing fibers in the matrix.
  • Resistance to physical impacts, abrasion and wear — the application makes it possible to create composites with high resistance to self-destruction in case of increased vibration or sudden temperature changes.
