Pipelines are widely used for transporting gases, oil products, active chemical compounds or as backup and bypass lines. Their service life is strictly regulated, and pipe replacement is carried out as planned, regardless of the degree of operational wear of the structural elements. Having undergone the necessary processing and recovered steel pipes can be reused:
- For laying highways during land reclamation.
- As supporting elements when constructing pits or shorelines of reservoirs.
- As parts for filling reinforced concrete structure.
Classification of such used pipes is carried out according to the following parameters: grade of steel or alloy, manufacturing technology (hot or cold rolled, presence of a weld), internal diameter and wall thickness, percentage wear and additional surface treatment.
Restoration technology
On the company website sts-met.ru presents used steel and cast iron pipes that have been processed for further use. The restoration technology is carried out in stages and includes:
- Cleaning the outer surface from soil contaminants.
- Removing the protective layer and insulation.
- Treating and removing rust on the inside surface.
- Carrying out defect detection and determining the percentage of wear. Non-destructive flaw detection of welded seams (if any).
- Removal of corrosion and degreasing of the outer surface for application of a primer.
- Chamfering and installation of “patches” in places of through corrosion.
For an accurate expert calculation of the degree of wear, the following generally accepted methods are used: measurement of the residual thickness of the pipe and comparison taking into account the wear formed over time operation. Proven mechanical and physical methods are used using modern certified equipment or tools. Additionally, a qualified specialist performs a visual examination of the condition of the pipes in comparison with a section without mechanical damage and existing corrosion processes. Indirect assessment using the results of engineering calculations in absolute and relative values.
An expert opinion is issued for the restored steel pipe with recommendations for further use and an indication of the percentage of wear.
