Association of ferrous metallurgy enterprises of Ukraine "Ukrmetallurgprom" has suspended its membership in the World Association of Steel Producers (Worldsteel) until it "says goodbye to associations and companies from Russia." This is stated in the address of the President of "Ukrmetallurgprom" Oleksandr Kalenkov to the Head of the World Association of Steel Producers, Mr. Sajan Jindal, and the General Director of the World Association of Steel Producers (Worldsteel), Dr. Edwin Basson.
Earlier in March, Ukrmetallurgprom appealed to Worldsteel on behalf of all metallurgists and miners of Ukraine with a call to exclude all Russian companies from the ranks of the latter. However, this requirement was ignored by the World Steel Association.
Ukrmetallurgprom reminded the Worldsteel management that after the start of the military special operation of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, many international organizations decided to immediately suspend Russia's participation in the activities of their bodies.
“Ukrainian metallurgists hoped that the World Steel Association, as the largest and most respected global metallurgical community, would follow the example of the aforementioned organizations and suspend the membership of Russian companies and associations in its ranks - however, unfortunately, representatives of the aggressor country still have been taking part in the events of the World Steel Association,” the message says.
Ukrmetallurgprom announced that from April 12, the association ceases its activity in any Worldsteel body while Russian associations and companies continue to participate in the activities of the World Steel Association. At the same time, each of the participants of the Association of Enterprises "Ukrmetallurgprom" will decide on its own discretion to continue participating in the activities of the World Association of Steel Producers.
"We hope that the World Steel Association will reconsider its position on the situation, which will allow Ukrainian and other civilized associations and companies to return to active participation in the activities of the World Steel Association," the Ukrmetallurgprom statement says.
