Car production in Italy fell 8% year on year to 41,549 units but increased 14.2% year on year to 183,894 vehicles in the first four months of the year. For comparison, car production in Spain increased in April by 5.6% to 133,635 vehicles and by 10.4% to 645,939 units in January-April. Production in Germany jumped 24% to 321,000 units and 35% to 1.4 million vehicles in the first four months. The UK also recorded an increase of 9.9% to 66,527 vehicles in April and 6.9% to 286,414 units in January-April, according to Anfia.

Italian passenger car production rose by 6. 6% year on year in 2022 to 473,149 units. Anfia registered 442,432 units produced in the country in 2021 and 451,718 units in 2020.

Local service centres, rewinders and coil producers report an improvement in orders in the automotive sector compared to the second quarter of last year. “The automotive sector is seen in the context of the overall decline in industrial production in Italy compared to last year’s level: in fact, in April 2023, the index of industrial production as a whole fell by 7.2% compared to April 2022 and fell by 2.9%. in the first four months of this year compared to the same period in 2022,” Anfia reports.
