The Spanish Ministry of Industry has detailed the rules for granting subsidies under the new Auto+ plan (which is part of the Auto 2030 plan), designed to promote the sale of affordable European-made electric vehicles by allocating 400 million euros from a centralized budget, La Tribuna de Automocion reports. The plan, supported by industry groups ANFAC and Faconauto and announced by Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, will be retroactive from January 1, 2026, but is expected to enter into force no earlier than the end of May or early June, after receiving administrative approvals.
The program gives priority to fully electric vehicles costing up to 35,000 euros, which can receive a full subsidy of 4,500 euros if they are assembled in Europe and at least part of the battery is manufactured in the EU; otherwise, the amount of support is reduced to 3,600 euros. Vehicles priced between 35,000 and 45,000 euros produced in Europe are also eligible for the subsidy, albeit at lower rates, while plug-in hybrid vehicles and models manufactured outside the EU receive reduced assistance. The subsidy is structured according to three criteria: power plant (50% assistance for BEV, 25% for PHEV), price (up to 35,000 euros) and European production, with an additional bonus associated with the assembly of batteries in the EU.
Commercial vehicles (N1) can receive 5,000 euros, ATVs 1,500 euros, and electric motorcycles 1,100 euros, while dealers must contribute at least 1,000 euros for passenger cars and vans.
