EU launches Turkish hydrogen project led by BOTAS

The European Commission has launched a tender procedure for the technical assistance project "Stimulating the production of environmentally friendly and low-carbon hydrogen in Turkey", the main beneficiary of which is Turkey's state-owned energy company BOTAŞ.

Published on June 12 on the website of the EU Financing and Tenders Portal, the project is funded under the Pre-Accession Assistance Instrument (IPA III) with a total budget of 3 million euros, Kallanish notes.

The project aims to support the development of a national green and low-carbon hydrogen ecosystem, strengthen institutional capacity, and strengthen Turkey's technical know-how in hydrogen production. This will include a technical assessment of the readiness of the BOTAŞ infrastructure for the use of hydrogen, the development of a Master Network Plan for the Use of hydrogen, and the implementation of extensive capacity-building initiatives targeting relevant stakeholders.

BOTAŞ, or Petroleum Pipeline Corp., engages in a wide range of activities, including oil production and operation of natural gas pipelines, liquefied natural gas and FSRU terminals and port services, as well as design, engineering, land management, expropriation and construction of oil and gas pipelines and compressor stations. The company is also actively engaged in the trading and storage of natural gas and LNG, as well as participates in international oil and natural gas transportation projects.
