The spot market for flat rolled products in Romania remains calm over the next week, with demand remaining low. As a result, spot market traders decided to keep prices stable at last week's level. The beginning of August was marked by a typically slow trading period, when many companies went on vacation, as in the rest of the EU region.
Currently, prices for domestic hot-rolled sheet (HRS) on the Romanian spot market from the warehouse are 700-720 euros per ton, unchanged week after week. Similarly, prices for cold rolled sheet (CRS) also remained at the same level, amounting to 825-835 euros per ton from the warehouse.
Meanwhile, as SteelOrbis previously reported, Romania's only producer of rolled steel, Liberty Galati, has received court approval for its new restructuring plan. However, the overall outlook remains gloomy. According to local media, the ANAF (Romanian Tax Administration) voted against this plan, and currently the plant does not produce products, as well as does not pay salaries to employees and reduces the working day. As a result, workers organized a protest at the Liberty Galati plant this week, but so far no significant changes have taken place.
The situation on the import market remains equally uncertain. The offers were stable, but Romanian buyers showed limited interest. There was some minor activity on the part of pipe manufacturers, but no specific deals were concluded. According to sources, the Ukrainian supply for HRS and CRS remains stable at 590-605 euros per ton CFR and 680-695 euros per ton CFR, respectively, for supplies in August-September. In contrast, the supply of HRC in Turkey has decreased slightly, mainly due to currency fluctuations. Turkish FOB prices currently stand at $530-550 per ton. With estimated shipping costs of 15-20 euros per ton, shipping prices to Romania in September are now around 470-490 euros per ton, compared to 480-500 euros per ton compared to last week's delivery.
