CBAM is not postponed: The European Commission has confirmed the timeline for implementation

EUROMETAL has asked the European Commission for urgent clarification regarding recent press reports and market rumors suggesting a possible postponement of the Carbon Dioxide Emissions Control Mechanism (CBAM).

In his official response to EUROMETAL, the CEO of DG TAXUD confirmed that the current legislative deadlines remain unchanged.:

"The effective date of the CBAM is January 1, 2026, in accordance with EU legislation. This can only be changed by a legal proposal from the European Commission and with the consent of the European Parliament and the European Council. There is no such proposal under consideration."

The Commission also made it clear that it does not comment on rumors circulating in the market.

This clarification confirms that the financial phase of CBAM will begin as planned on January 1, 2026, in accordance with the current regulations.

EUROMETAL will continue to closely monitor the implementation of CBAM and provide regular updates to its members as official information becomes available.
