On Monday, November 10, the situation remained calm in the domestic European hot-rolled steel coil market, as buyers had not yet actively started ordering supplies for January, while December shipments were reported to be mostly sold out.
However, a customer source said that the plants may intentionally keep some December volumes in stock until January due to the expected price increases associated with the introduction of the EU Carbon Emissions Control Mechanism (CBAM) in January 2026.
Import regulation measures are currently considered the only factor driving up local prices, while actual demand leaves much to be desired.
In Northern Europe, January supply offers ranged from 620-650 euros ($716-751) per tonne from the factory, with the exception of a rolling company in the Benelux region, which offered a roll for January delivery at 600 euros per tonne from the factory.
Estimates of real prices at the level of 600-620 euros per ton from the plant were announced, but so far there have been few orders, and market sources report that the active phase will begin in a few weeks. This price is compared to 590 euros per ton at the last December shipment sales.
