According to Worldsteel, in January 2022, metallurgical enterprises of the countries of the world produced 115.56 million tons of pig iron, of which 107.01 million tons were smelted by the blast-furnace method and 8.55 million tons by the direct renewal method. Current figures are 6.41% below the level of 123.47 million tons in January 2021.
The leadership in the production of pig iron belongs to China, the metallurgists of this country in January 2022 smelted 68.60 million tons of pig iron, which is 9.81% lower than the figure of 76.06 million tons in January 2021. The share of Chinese pig iron in global production in January 2022 is 59.4%.
Ukraine smelted 1.79 million tons of pig iron, which is 0.8% lower compared to January 2021 and ranks 10th among 38 pig iron producing countries.
Global steel production in January 2022 fell by 6.10% to 1,155.03 million tons, down from 165.10 million tons in January 2021.
The People's Republic of China ranks first in steel production, which smelted 81.69 million tons, which is 11.16% lower than the figure of 91.94 million tons in January 2021. China's share in world steel production is 52.7%.
Ukraine produced 1.85 million tons of steel, increasing production by 0.7% compared to January 2021 and ranked 13th among 64 steel-producing countries.
