Blastr Green Steel has signed a letter of intent regarding an alternative location for its pelletizing plant to supply raw materials to an ultra-low CO2 steel plant under construction in Inkoo, Finland.
Blastr has chosen an industrial the Lutelandet area on the west coast of Norway as a potential site for a pellet plant. The Letter of Intent includes a land sublease agreement between Blastr and Lutelandet Offshore Site & Drydock (LLOF), which develops and operates the Lutelandet industrial site and port. The letter of intent also covers cooperation between Blastr and Htwo-Fuel to secure the grid and power facilities. Founded in 2021, HTWO-Fuel AS aims to make hydrogen available as a fuel for shipping along the western coast of Norway and produce sustainable ammonia.
The plant will employ about 120 people and generate a significant amount of indirect jobs and economic activity in the surrounding area.
Blastr says the pelletizing plant is a key link in its integrated green steel value chain, which has the potential to reduce Scope 1-3 CO₂ emissions by more than 90% compared to traditional steel production.
“Lutelandet is a very attractive raw material production site for our steel plant with pre-existing industrial infrastructure, access to a deep water port in the North Sea, and clean renewable energy from hydroelectric and nearby wind farms,” says Hans Fredrik Witthusen, CEO of Blaster Green Steel.
