Taiwan's Ministry of Economy (MOEA) has determined that imports of undirected electrical steel from South Korea and China are likely to have caused significant damage to the domestic industry, Yieh writes.
In the period from January 2022 to September 2025, the volume of imports of these products increased significantly, while prices decreased. By 2023, prices had fallen below domestic prices, forcing local producers to lower their own prices and lose customers.
MOEA noted that the industry's production, sales, market share, and profits have declined. In this regard, the case has been referred to the Ministry of Finance to investigate the level of dumping. The Ministry must make a preliminary decision on dumping within 70 days and determine whether to impose temporary anti-dumping duties.
According to local legislation, MOEA will also additionally assess the impact of the investigation on related industries and the national economy. The final decision on the imposition of anti-dumping duties will depend both on the results of the dumping investigation and on the establishment of the fact of damage.
