Rostekhnadzor noted an increase in the accident rate at Russian mines in 2021 by 8% compared to 2020. At the same time, the number of deaths as a result of accidents, taking into account the accident at the Listvyazhnaya mine, increased by more than 80%.
The three main reasons for the increase in the number of accidents, the agency called the introduction of a moratorium on scheduled inspections in 2020, an increase in the proportion of contractors involved with insufficiently qualified workers (including due to a shortage of personnel in a pandemic), as well as neglect of safety requirements.
At the same time, the Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation reported that the main causes of accidents at mines were the depreciation of facilities, violation of safety requirements by third parties, violation of equipment operation rules and personnel errors.
