According to South African statistics, the mining industry in South Africa increased its production performance last year due to strong growth in the production of platinum group metals.

Following the results of the entire 2021, the extraction of metals and minerals in South Africa increased by 11.2% compared to 2020. In 2020, this indicator decreased by 10.6%, and in 2019 - by 1%.

In December 2021, mining production in South Africa decreased by 1.1%. The main contribution to the decline was made by gold (-15.3%), coal (-8.1%), manganese ore (-10.8%) and iron ore (-7.4%).

Meanwhile, the production of platinum group metals in the country increased significantly in December last year, increasing by 24.4%.
