According to DTEK, as of July 2019, about 3.20 million tons of coal were exported from the temporarily uncontrolled territories of Ukraine to the countries of the European Union. The General Director told about this in an interview with the Croatian edition Jutarnji List DTEK Maxim Timchenko.

“11 coal and energy enterprises of DTEK remained in the territories temporarily not controlled by Ukraine, and today we are completely deprived of the opportunity to participate in their activities. As far as we know, today no one supports these enterprises, many of them will no longer be possible to operate, "- said M. Timchenko.

He noted that, according to Ukrainian legislation, the operation of mines and coal mining without special permits issued by the Ukrainian authorities has signs of a crime.

“Unfortunately, some of this illegally mined coal is exported to European countries. According to our data, about 3.20 million tons of coal were exported from there as of July 2019. We hope for the active participation of European politicians and statesmen in resolving this issue, ”said the head of DTEK.

This week, DTEK and the Croatian national energy company HEP d.d. signed a Memorandum of Understanding and Business Cooperation, which opens a new page in relations between the two countries in the energy sector.

International partnership is one of the defining factors of DTEK's long-term strategy. The signing of the memorandum with HEP is another step in expanding the company's presence in the European energy markets. DTEK is currently considering several areas of cooperation with Croatian partners. These are trade in electricity and gas, joint projects in European markets, including investments in energy assets.

DTEK is part of the SCM holding company of the Ukrainian billionaire Rinat Akhmetov. Maxim Timchenko - CEO, Chairman of the Board of DTEK since 2005. For several years, Maxim Timchenko has been recognized as one of the best top managers in Ukraine. Previously, Timchenko worked in his SCM group and was responsible for the energy part. He started his career at PriceWaterhouseCoopers in 1998.
