As part of the environmental program, Metinvest's Northern Mining and Processing Plant continues to work to reduce dust at industrial sites. The tailings pond uses new binders and green technologies to anchor dry surfaces.
Ecologists of the Northern GOK applied new methods of dust control on dry maps of the technical water and sludge management department (TsTVSHH). For the experiment, together with representatives of the GRT company from Ireland, we used a modern Soil Loc reagent. The binder successfully fights erosion in the fertile soils of Ireland and Holland. If the result is positive, the specialists of the plant plan to treat 20 hectares of dusty surfaces with the new polymer.
In parallel, rye is sown on the maps of the TsTVSHH. For good germination, ammonia fertilizer is used. The powerful root system of the cereal plant will hold the sands together and reduce the dust load on the environment. The same effect was obtained from the use of the Iberian kurai on the slopes of the dams.
“To combat dust, Severny GOK is implementing a set of measures. In addition to polymers and green technologies, we carry out mining technical reclamation at the tailing dump, reclamation of maps, watering of roads. Shrubs and grass were planted on the dam's emergency tank, coniferous and deciduous seedlings were planted in the sanitary protection zone of the Pervomaisky quarry.
Also, the plant continues the phased replacement of gas cleaning facilities in the pellet production shop. Thanks to eco-projects, last year we managed to reduce dust and gas emissions by 20%, ”said Aleksey Stepanenko, head of the environmental protection department of the Northern GOK.
Recall that to improve the environment, green technologies are used at Ingulets and Central GOKs. Rye is sown at the tailings of the enterprises. Greening is carried out in the Ingulets microdistrict, in the village of Volnoe, in the Vizirka nature reserve, on the industrial sites of the plants.
