Metinvest's Central GOK continues to search for new effective methods of dust control in its structural divisions. As part of the implementation of the activities of the city environmental program in the sludge management shop (CSH), landscaping continues and fixing substances are used.

The effectiveness of "green technologies" in dust suppression was confirmed during an experiment in 2017. Specialists of the Central Shock Workshop of the Central Combine used the planting of reeds and rye to create a natural filter that retains fine particles from the surface of the dry tailings pond.

Greening work continues, this season rye has been sown on five plots with a total area of 112 hectares in the tailings stacking area and near the free tanks of the tailings dump. The plants showed good germination and created a green dust barrier.

In parallel, experiments with substances that fix the surface are continuing. Last year, the Central GOK tested the effectiveness of the GRT Enviro Binder substance and, having received positive results, used an innovative polymer in the most difficult places - the slopes of the Central Shore Dam. In 2020, 4,000 square meters of surface were processed.

The substance can be used in any dusty area - it gives an instant result, and the method of such surface fixation itself is environmentally friendly, therefore the Central GOK plans to expand the scope of its application.

Central GOK is a unique enterprise in Ukraine that combines open pit and underground mining of magnetite quartzite, followed by enrichment. This plant includes three quarries and a mine named after V. Ordzhonikidze with a total actual capacity of 15.4 million tons of raw ore per year, a crushing plant, an enrichment plant with an actual capacity of more than 6 million tons of iron ore concentrate per year, a pelletizing plant with an actual capacity of over 2.0 million tons of pellets per year, auxiliary workshops.
