For seven months of 2021, 216 cases of general industrial injuries were admitted at state coal mining enterprises of Ukraine against 146 cases in 2020. This is 70 cases, or 47.9% more than in the same period last year. In four cases, this led to fatal consequences. Thus, every millionth ton of mined coal is paid for by at least one human life, according to the Independent Trade Union of Miners of Ukraine.
“Funds were allocated for the technical re-equipment of mines last time in 2019, and even then - only 15.4% of the required volume, urgent concrete actions and state funding are needed, which is enough not only to pay wages, but also to protect the labor of miners and new machinery and equipment ", - commented on the current situation in the industry, the chairman of the trade union Mikhail Volynets.
According to him, a high level of industrial injuries indicates an unsatisfactory organization of production, imperfection of technological processes, mechanisms and hand tools, as well as inefficiency, and basically the lack of preventive measures at state coal mining enterprises.
Recall that according to the Ministry of Energy, Ukraine 3.5 million tons are missing thermal coal for the winter heating season.
