The US Treasury Department has confirmed that the sanctions imposed on Turkey on October 14, as well as three high-ranking officials in the country, have been lifted.

President Donald Trump said the US is lifting the sanctions imposed on Turkey nine days ago for its attack on Kurdish militants in northern Syria.

In particular, the rate of import duties on steel for Turkey will be reduced from 50% to 25%.

The decision was made after Russia agreed with Turkey to deploy troops for a ceasefire along the Syrian border.

"Let someone else fight for this endless bloody sand," Trump said in a televised address.

According to the US President, only American diplomacy stopped Turkish military operations in Syria and concluded a long-term deal to save Kurdish lives.

Some political analysts point to a different reality: Russia and Turkey made a deal, and this entire episode was provoked by Washington's willingness to abandon its Kurdish allies.

According to the Syrian Human Rights Group (SOHR), about 120 civilians died during the Turkish offensive, as well as 259 Kurdish fighters, 196 Syrian rebels supported by Turkey, and seven Turkish soldiers.

Turkish officials say an additional 20 civilians have also been killed during Kurdish attacks on Turkish territory.
