United Metallurgical Company (OMK Group) has confirmed that its OCTG pipes meet the requirements for complex onshore and offshore well construction and oil and gas production projects. The company’s press service said.

The company has successfully completed the qualification of pipes with premium gas-tight threaded connections designed for use in extreme conditions. The products meet the highest CAL IV level under GOST ISO 13679-2023. During testing, samples were subjected to combined loads simulating the harshest downhole operating conditions.
The tests were conducted on 177.8 mm casing pipes with premium OMK Polar connections. The samples were coated with Clean Space dry lubricant, developed by OMK and combining preservative and anti-galling properties. It can replace standard thread-sealing compounds.
“For CAL IV-level threaded connections, it is critical to prevent gas leaks even under the most extreme loads—and samples of OMK Polar threaded connections have confirmed that they meet this requirement. The connection withstood repeated make-up and break-out and remained leak-tight under various combined loads: the pipe was stretched, compressed and bent, subjected to internal and external pressure and temperature fluctuations, including heating to 180 °C,” said Igor Kulikov, head of the OMK Group’s threaded connection testing center.
To be supplied to complex fields, premium-grade pipe products must meet CAL IV requirements. This is one of the key requirements of Russian and international oil and gas companies.
“Leaks in a well are not only a financial loss for companies, but also a serious environmental threat and, in some cases, a risk to the safety of personnel working at fields. That is why pipe testing for CAL IV simulates the harshest operating scenarios. A manufacturer’s qualification to this level guarantees reliability for oil and gas companies: they can be sure they will receive products that meet the requirements of a proven global standard,” explained Vladislav Solovyov, head of premium pipe development at OMK Group.
