Ukraine is taking all possible measures to disconnect from the Russian energy system, but today this is impossible, said Vitaly Shubin, Deputy Minister of Energy of Ukraine.

The Ministry of Energy and Environmental Protection is observing certain positive moments from the start of commercial imports of electricity from Russia. This was stated in the Verkhovna Rada during the "Hour of Questions to the Government" by the First Deputy Minister of Energy and Environmental Protection of Ukraine Vitaliy Shubin, answering a question about the government's attitude to the start of commercial electricity imports from the Russian Federation.

“Indeed, there is an import. But this is a market issue. Firstly, this is a question for the Verkhovna Rada, since the Cabinet of Ministers does not pass legislation. If the legislator has determined the ability to import, then the market has opened. Accordingly, market players reacted. We observe certain even positive things from these things, ”Shubin said.

In addition, he added that the government's goal is to fully combine the energy system of Ukraine with the energy grid of Europe.

“I hope that over the next three years we will be able to create with you the technical and economic prerequisites for unification with Europe. The issue of combining with ENTSO-E is one of the main priorities of the government today, "Shubin said.

"We are taking all measures regarding the earliest possible disconnection from the energy system of Russia, but this is impossible today," the deputy minister said.

On September 18, the Verkhovna Rada allowed the conclusion of direct contracts for the import of electricity from Belarus and Russia, thus Ukraine returned to the import of electricity from Russia, which was suspended in 2015. The reason for the restoration of commercial supplies could be a shortage of coal.

According to Interfax-Ukraine, as of October 1, electricity from Russia with a capacity of 100 MW was imported by United Energy LLC, registered with Andrey Korotkevich-Leshchenko.

Import supplies of electric energy from Russia as of October 15 almost doubled to 4,480,000 kWh, against 2,400,000 kWh at the beginning of the month.
