Slovak State Energy Company SPP has created a subsidiary in Ukraine and plans to get a license to transport natural gas to carry out transit of Russian gas. This was announced by the head of SPP Voyah Ferenz, reports the Slovak edition Dennik N.
recall that until recently, the European country received almost all natural gas from Russia in transit through Ukraine. However, from January 1, 2025, the transit of Russian gas through Ukraine ceased, so Slovakia was looking for other gas production routes.

SPP has a valid contract with the Russian "Gazprom ", and its transit expenses are much lower than that of other suppliers. Nevertheless, the throughput of the "Turkish stream " is still insufficient to fully satisfy the needs of Slovakia, since the country remains greatly dependent on Russian gas, said the head of the trading division of SPP Michal Lalik.
The head of SPP, Ferenz did not reveal the current volumes of Russian natural gas supplies, but said that since April they will double. According to the Entso-G platform, in the first days of February, gas supplies from Hungary to Slovakia were an average of 7.5 million cubic meters per day.
Ferenz repeated that the transportation of not Russian gas would cost € 90 million more expensive. The reason is an increased transit. The company considers the next year “risky”. In the summer-autumn, SPP plans to pump gas to storage facilities for the next season.
the supply of Russian gas to Slovakia was suspended on January 1 after the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky decided not to renew the contract for its transit.
