The modernization of sinter shop No. 2 is one of the key investment projects of the largest steel producer in Ukraine, ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih, which will significantly reduce the industrial load on the region and the city. Now the enterprise is carrying out work on the construction of a new gas cleaning system as part of the reconstruction of the next sintering machine of the shop, already the fifth in a row. The modernization of sintering machine No. 2, like all the previous ones, will be implemented with the installation of gas cleaning equipment, modern aspiration and automation systems.
ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih considers the modernization of sinter production a priority, since the share of these production facilities (three sinter shops) in the total emissions is about 75%. To date, four of the six sintering machines of the shop have been modernized: No. 1, 4, 5, 6. As a result, dust emissions have decreased by an average of 80% from each sinter machine.
After the reconstruction, new gas-cleaning equipment and efficient foreign-made electrostatic precipitators (Italy, Denmark) were installed on four sintering machines. Also installed are new incendiary horns with an energy efficient ignition system, thereby reducing natural gas consumption.
Despite the coronavirus pandemic tests and falling prices for metal products on world markets, ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih is gradually fulfilling its environmental obligations. The modernization of sinter machine No. 2 is planned for the fourth quarter, and sinter machine No. 3 will be stopped for reconstruction by the end of this year. As a result of the renovation of the second sinter shop, dust emissions from each of the six sintering machines will be reduced by 250 tons per year. The total cost of the project for the reconstruction of sinter shop No. 2 is over $ 180 million.
